What do brackets around the first letter of a sentence mean? Sometimes I will see a sentence like this: [T]he dog was said to have been... What do the brackets indicate?

It means the sentence can either start with The or He according to situation..... Similarly words with s in bracket after them like Computer(s) means either it can be singular or plural
