acids r those substance which produce hydrogen ions(H+) in aqueous solution
base
base r those which produce hydroxide ions (OH-) in Aqueous solution
according to bronsted-lowry
Acids r those substance which can give protons to any other substance and bases r those substance which can accept protons from any other substance.
but in common language we can also define acid r those which r sour in taste while base r bitter in taste

acid :An acid is a substance that donates hydrogen ions. Because of this, when an acid is dissolved in water, the balance between hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions is shifted.
Base :Any substance that in water solution is slippery to the touch, tastes bitter, changes the colour of indicators reacts with acids to form salts, and promotes certain chemical reactions . (e.g., turns red litmus paper blue)
