What do negative and positive hydrostatic pressure mean?

Hydrostatic pressure is the pressure exerted by a fluid at equilibrium at a given point within the fluid due to the force of gravity. So, positive pressure is exerted toward the gravity and negative pressure exerted against the gravity.
