Steeper slopes means the slope which are closer to verticle axis, or larger angle with horizontal axis. The smaller area where the species -area relationship is similar to the taxonomic group, whereas whn the analysis is done in larger area, the slope is more steeper. It signifies that number of species increases faster than the area explored in very large area like the entire continents.
