what do the ciliary muscles do when you are focusing

The ciliary muscles modify the curvature of the eye to some extent when the eye is to focus on an object.

When the object is placed close to the eye, the ciliary muscles contract. This increases the curvature is the eye lens. This in turn decreases the focal length of the eye lens which helps us see the object placed nearby clearly.

When the object is a distant object, the ciliary muscles relax, the lens becomes thin and the focal length increases. This helps us see an object placed far away clearly.

A circular muscle that relaxes or tightens the zonules to enable the lens to change shape for focusing . the zonules are fibers that hold the lens suspended in position and enable it to change shape during accommodation .
