she is a ture fighter,you can see it in her eyes. she was not born strong, she was made strong she was sculpted to be her own hero when the world lets her down, and she keeps picking herself back up!

Hey !!
Kamala Das tries to bring in the element of contrast here. When she is about to say good-bye to her mother she feels the familiar pain and ache which she tries to cover. She composes herself to look normal, says good-bye and say would she her soon.
She did nothing except smile and smile as she wanted to hide the fear and pain in the heart. These words were used to give an assurance of life to an old lady, who was slowly fading away.
