What do the terms of phycopiont and mycobiont signify?

Hi dude.... here is your answer.

I think you know about Lichens. Lichen is made up of mainly fungus and algae. In some types of lichen fungus can be in mutual relationship with cyanobacteria also.

Anyway, Phycobiont is the algal component and Mycobiont is the fungal component of a lichen. Algae provide food for fungus and fungus absorbes mineral, water for algae.

So, both are important for each other. Did you know-- lichens never grow in polluted areas and used as pollution-indicator!
