they learn all about electric things
like electric resistance and ekectric circuits
Well, ECE is an exciting course if you like the concepts involved. As the name suggests, we don't study too many electrical engineering concepts, such as the working of transformers, HVDC and the likes. Nor do we learn a lot about the telecommunication domain, such as the intricacies of telecom infrastructure, digital transmission systems, optical fibres and so on.
At the same time, we do a bit of coding, but stuff beyond C and C++ is usually not a part of the core curriculum.
So now that I've told you what you won't find in the syllabus, let's talk about what you will find.
The first year of an engineering course is usually department-independent, i.e., you will learn the very basics (I repeat, very basics) of several domains. So let's have a look at what we learn after that.
The ECE course usually starts off with fundamental subjects like Analog Electronics - an introduction to the foundation stones of real-world electronics, where you will learn about that wonderful invention that changed the world, the transistor, and how exactly it works. In Digital Circuits, you will delve into the exciting world of 0s & 1s - and you will understand what the fuss is all about. Oh, you will learn how three little logic gates; called the And, Or and Not, build up a whole digital system! :D
