When magnesium ribbon is burnt we can see the white light comes out. When a magnesium ribbon is burned in the air, it changes into magnesium oxide. This is a statement for a chemical reaction, but it can be written in the following manner.

\bold{\text { Magnesium }+\text { Oxygen } \rightarrow \text { Magnesium oxide }}

Equations of any chemical reaction have two parts:

1. Reactor: The substances that take part in any reaction are called reactants. Like - In the above equation, magnesium and oxygen take part in the reaction, so these are both reactants.

2. Products: During the reaction, the new ones are called products. Like - MgO product which is a new substance made by taking part of \mathrm{Mg} \text { and } \mathrm{O}_{2}.
