Antonio is ready to do anything for Bassanio as he is Antonio's only family( like friend ). Antonio was risking his life for Bassanio by signing the bond. He was very overconfident that his ventures would return a month back before the bond got forfeited ignorant of the fact that ship is merely wood and sailors are mortal men.
Shylock is blinded by his desire for revenge and has a huge grudge on Antonio for insulting him at the stock exchange, calling him dog and for punching him and spitting on him .He also hated Antonio for he was a Christian and hated Jews and their customs. Shylock has a right o take revenge on Antonio but signing a bond which promised him a pound of Antonio's flesh if forfeited is too cruel....
