Obviously, I’m a little bias but here is an abbreviated version of my two cents worth about what I think about farmers.
Farmers are involved in a age old trade the the entire world depends upon but few understand. Even worse, those that don’t understand often try to dictate how he/she farms.
Farmers live poor, die “rich.”
Farmers are gamblers who bury thousands of dollars in the ground every year and hope to get some of it back.
Farmers are truly a jack of all trades. From mechanic, marketer, vet, agronomist, accountant, among many others. Farmers really do do it all.
Farmers sacrifices time away from their family so you have a chance to sit around the dinner table with yours.
“The farmer is the only man in our economy who buys everything at retail, sells everything at wholesale and pays the freight both ways.” —JFK
Farmers care for and are stewards of the land. The price they pay for this is they have to listen to how badly they are doing from people living/working in buildings of brick and mortar along concrete streets that were previously forest, prairies, wetlands.
Farmers live in a world where they deliver food to consumers who think their food comes from a grocery store.
Farmers can fix nearly anything with bailing wire, duct tape and beating on it with a pair of pliers.
Farmers are lucky in the fact they are in an occupation that allows them to stay connect to the ground and to nature.
Farming is most often and best done as a family affair.
