Schottky defect :-

This type of defect created when one +ve ion and one -ve ion are missing in their respective positions leaving behind a pair of hole .

This defect is also called vacancy defect in ionic solid .

This defect are more common in ionic compounds with high co-ordinate number and size of +ve

and -ve ion must be equal

Example

KCl

NaCl

AgBr

Kbr

etc
