♦ Glycerine or water is a good dehydrating agent. It avoids the drying of the specimen.

♦ Besides, glycerine tends to reflect light due to its refractive nature. As a result of it, image appears clearer under the microscope.

♦ Due to these reasons, glycerine is used while preparing temporary mount.
