What was the directory?
It was an executive made up of five members to check the concentration of power in one man. It was a type of a government that ruled France during the final stage of the French Revolution.

Why was it introduced in France?
Becouse the clashes between the Directors and the Legislative were increasing.

How long did the Directory rule France?
The Directory ruled France for four years from 1795 to 1799.

What was the reason of the failure of the Directory?
It was becoming more and more corrupt day by day.
It was politically unstable which finally paved the way for military dictatorship of Napoleon Bonaparte.

The wealthier middle classes seized power and formed a new constitution.. It provided for two elected legislative councils. These then appointed a Directory, an executive made up of five members. This was meant as a safeguard against the concentration of power in a one-man executive as under the Jacobins.
