Green revolution started in 1960s introduced the Indian farmer to cultivation of wheat and rice using high yeild variety of seeds.

compare to the traditional seeds the HV Y seeds promised to produce much greater amount of grain on a single plant as a result the same piece of land would not produce for larger quantities of food grains that was possible earlier. HYV seeds how ever needed plenty of water and also chemical fertilizers and pesticides to produce better results.
