Answers
Kannauj is a classical city, in ancient times and also the capital city of the Emperor Harsha. Kannauj was also recognized as Mahodaya during the time of Mihira Bhoja. Kannauj was strategically and commercially very important for the trading activities.
During the 8th century AD, a conflict for authority over the Kannauj was started among the three major empires of India, the Pratiharas, the Palas, and the Rastrakutas.
The Palas controlled the eastern parts of India while the Pratiharas dominated western India. On the other hand, The Rastrakutas controlled over the Deccan province of India. The conflict for supremacy over Kannauj due to the trade as it was connected with the Silk route between these three dynasties is remembered as the Tripartite struggle in Indian history.
