The reaction in which precipitate(insoluble substance) is formed is known as Percipitation reaction
Eg. Lead nitrate + Potassium iodide-----lead iodide(yellow percipitate) + potassium nitrate

Those reactions in which aqueous solutions of two compounds on mixing to react to form an insoluble compound which seperates out as a solid (called precipitate) or such an insoluble compound is formed when a gas is passed through the solution of the compound are callled precipitation reactions.
