What do you mean by bioyent? why does an object float or sink when placed on the surface of water ?the volume of 50 g of a substance in 20 cm³ .if the density of water is 1 g/cm³ ,will be the substance float or sink?

when an object is immersed in liquid the object exerts an upward force and this is called buoyant force.
if if an object weighs more than water it becomes more dense and therefore it will sink in itbut if object's density is more than water then it will float
NOW;;
mass=50gm. volume=20cm³. {as given}
we know that-
Density=mass/volume
=50/20
Density=2.5gm/cm³
so we see that the given object's density is more than that of water(i.e. 1gm/cm³)
Therefore, the given object will sink in water.
