Explanation:
The process of arranging data into similar groups according to their common characteristics is known as the Classification of Data.
For example, the population of a town can be grouped according to sex, age, marital status, etc.
Two Methods of Classification of Data are: -
1)Qualitative classification-This classification is according to qualities or attributes of the data. It cannot be measured in numerical values, it can only be measured in Qualitative terms. For example, data may be classified on the basis of occupation, the religion of the population. It is of 2 types:-
♦Simple - In this data are divided on the basis of existence or absence of quality.
♦Manifold -When quality of data involves more than one characteristic, it is called manifold classification or multiple classifications.
2)Quantitative or numerical classification-Data which are classified into classes or groups on the basis of their numerical values. In simple words, each class of data is capable of quantitative classification or can be expressed in terms of numerical figures like a weight in kg, and height in cm.
