The total path covered by a body is known as the distance covered by it whereas the shortest distance covered by a body is called its displacement.
Distance is a scalar quantity while Displacement is a vector quantity...

Distance is actual path covered by a body and displacement is shortest distance between final and initial position
Displacement is vector quantity ie it has both magnitude and direction
Distance is scalar. It only has magnitude.
For ex. If travel on a circular path in one cycle your displacement is zero but distance is 2πr
