Edaphic factor An abiotic factor relating to the physical or chemical composition of the soil found in a particular area. For example, very alkaline soil may be an edaphic factor limiting the variety of plants growing in a region.

The branch of science where we Study of soil is called pedology. It is defined as weathered surface of earth's crust mixed with organic materials, generally made up of sand, silt and clay.

It is depend on agencies of transport, soil are of following types:-

Alluvial soil are transported by running water.

Colluvial soil are transported by force of gravity.

Eolian soil are transported by winds

Glacial soil are transported by glaciers

  • Loam :- they contain 20-30% clay, 30-45% silt and rest sand

  • Clayey loam:- they contain 20-30% clay.
  • Clay:- it has more than 31% clay.
