In Newtonian physics, free fall is any motion of a body where gravity is the only force acting upon it. ... The term "free fall" is often used more loosely than in the strict sense defined above. Thus, falling through an atmosphere without a deployed parachute, or lifting device, is also often referred to as free fall.

Hii..
Free fall means that no force is applied to the body to make it move...it is falling without any force applied(push or pull)...
Only force given is that of gravitational pull..
If a force is given..then the object can give a projectile or a linear motion..
But in free fall the body is just allowed to fall freely with respect to height..
hope this helps!!
