for example take the third carbon which is propane and alcohol without show the suffix changes well due to this we can name it as CH3 ch2 ch2 o h who has the compound name was propanol

functional group is a series of compounds having similar properties but different chemical formulaes , every succeeding compound in a functional group has a difference of CH2 .
