One way that plants can balance the amount of water they take in is by a process called guttation.Guttation is when water is secreted from the tips of the leaves of plants. Guttationhappens in certain plants that have vascular systems, such as grass, wheat, barley, tomatoes, strawberries and other small plants.

During humid climates , the rate of transpiration is reduced whereas the roots continue to absorb water from the soil .
Therefore , this creates an hydrostatic pressure within the plants which forces excess of the water to come out directly from the tip of veins called ' hydathodes '. This process in which water droplets are exposed to the atmosphere directly is known as GUTTATION .
