After refraction from A glass slab, the emergent ray emerges parallel to the actual direction of the incident ray. The distance between them is called the lateral displacement. Factors on which it depends are:
- Thickness of glass slab: more the thickness more the lateral displacement
- Refractive Index: more the refractive index more the lateral displacement
- Wavelength: More the wavelength of the colour of light, less is the displacement. Displacement for red is the least, while displacement for violet the most.
