reaction between acid and salt leads to neutalization reaction. During neuratlization reaction salt and water is formed.
So, this can help in preparation of common salt.

HCl(strong acid) + NaOH (strong base)------> NaCl(common salt) + H2O(water).

Answer:

A neutralization reaction is a process in which an acid reacts with a base to produce salt and water while evolving a good amount of heat. In this reaction, both the acid and base loose their properties to produce a new substance that is neutral in nature, i.e., the salt formed will neither be  acidic nor basic.

Acid + Base → Salt + Water [with the evolution of heat]
