- The nitrogen cycle is a set of activities that occur in both living and non-living creatures, including the atmosphere, soil, water, plants, animals, and bacteria.
- Microorganisms are single-celled, tiny living organisms that may be found practically anyplace.
- Bacteria in soils may break down organic matter and cause it to degrade.
- In order to travel through the various portions of the cycle, nitrogen must change forms.
- Nitrogen is present in the atmosphere as a gas (N2), but it also exists in soils as nitrogen oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and when used as a fertiliser, it may also be found in other forms, such as ammonia (NH3), which can be processed further into ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3).
- The five phases of the nitrogen cycle are fixation or volatilization, mineralization, nitrification, immobilization, and denitrification, and we'll go through each one separately now.
