Answer:

Explanation:

LICHENS ARE SYMBIOTIC ASSOCIATIONS IE;MUTUALLY USEFUL ASSOCIATION,BETWEEN ALGAE AND FUNGI.THE  ALGAL COMPONENT IS CALLED "PHYCOBIONT" AND THE FUNGAL COMPONENT CALEED "MYCOBIONT" WHICH ARE AUTOTROPHIC AND HETEROTROPHIC RESPECTIVELY.

ALGAE PREPARE FOOD FOR FUNGI AND FUNGI PROVIDE SHELTER AND ABSORB NUTRIENTS AND  WATER FOR  ITS PARTNER .LICHENS ARE VERY GOOD POLLUTION INDICATORS: THEY DONOT GROW IN POLLUTED AREAS.

Phycobiont refers to the algal component of the lichens

Mycobiont refers to the fungal componen of the lichens.

Both of these are present in symbiotic relationship in which Algae prepare food for Fungi due to presence of chlorophyll whereas the fungus provides shelter to algae and absorbs water and nutrients from the soil.

Hope this answer helps you :-)
