When an insoluble solid, which is insoluble in water is formed it is called as a precipitate.
A reaction in which a precipitate is formed is known as a precipitation
reaction.
For example,
When we react aqeous solutions of Barium Chloride and Sodium Sulphate then a white solid of Barium Sulphate is formed and Sodium Chloride remains in the solution form.
This is also an example of double displacement reaction where the ions of the compound get exchanged I.e Ba2+ & SO2- get dissociated and form Barium Sulphate.
