Segregation of garbage is another term for 'waste sorting.' Considering the fact, that a majority of our garbage is recycled and reused, waste sorting has become exceedingly important today.
There can be various ways of segregating garbage, like separate bins for wet and dry wastes, toxic and non toxic etc. However, the most common and efficient way is sorting the waste as -
Biodegradable and Non-biodegradable.
Biodegradable wastes include organic things.Vegetable peels, egg shells, dry leaves, paper and other such kitchen stuffs. They are usually alloted a green coloured bin.
On the other hand
Non-biodegradable wastes include the inorganic materials. These can be further divided as -
Recyclable wastes - plastic, glass , metal sheets etc.
Toxic wastes - drugs, paints, chemicals, expired medicines etc.
Soiled wastes - things which are ruined beyond usage.
Non biodegradable wastes should be deposited with utmost care. They are collected in red coloured bins.

Waste can also be sorted in a civic amenity site. Waste segregation means dividing waste into dry and wet. Dry waste includes wood and related products, metals and glass. Wet waste, typically refers to organic waste usually generated by eating establishments and are heavy in weight due to dampness.
