Series Combination means the Resistors are connected in series . *( See the pic in the attachment )*
Equivalent resistance in Series combination .
Consider 3 resistors , R1 , R2 and R3 connected in series .
By Ohm' Law the potential drop across each resistor is given by :-
=> V1 = IR1
=> V2 = IR2
=> V3 = IR3
Let total potential be ( V )
V = V1 + V2 + V3
V = IRe ( Re is the equivalent resistance . )
Thus ,,
•• IRe = IR1 + IR2 + IR3
♦ Re = R1 + R2 + R3 .
we can say that equivalent resistance in series combination is the individual sum of resistance .
In Series Combination :-»»
=> The current through each resistor is same .
=> The equivalent resistance is greater than that of individual resistance in series combination .
=> the Total voltage drop is equal to the sum of the voltage across each resistor .
