A short circuit is simply a low resistance connection between the two conductors supplying electrical power to any circuit. This results in excessive current flow in the power source through the 'short,' and may even cause the power source to be destroyed

If live wire and neutral wire come in contact either directly or via conducting wire then it is called short circuiting. In this case, resistance of the circuit is almost zero which result in flow of large amount of current. This heats up the wire dangerously and may lead to fire.
