According to Indian Constitution a citizen can hold citizenship of only one country and if he wants the citizenship of another country he/she had to give up the Citizenship of India. He cannot hold citizenship of to countries at a time.

Single citizenship in basic feature of Indian Constitution:
- Single citizenship means one is granted a single citizenship of a state and its features.
- Our Indian constitution provide a fundamental rights to a all citizens.
- The constitution of the country goes on to provide single citizenship to the residents of the country.
- All people irrespective of the territories or states are termed as residents of the country. It is not like the USA where one is a resident of the USA and the state they reside.
- By single citizenship, one can only be the citizen of India. Whereas with dual citizenship you can be a residence of two countries or even more.
