#  The industrial undertakings having fixed investment in plant and machinery, whether held on ownership basis or lease basis or hire purchase basis is called small scale-industries.

        All types of small-scale industries found in India whether in manufacturing sector or service sector are divided into five types:

  • Manufacturing Industries.
  • Ancillary Industries.
  • Service Industries.
  • Feeder Industries.
  • Mining or Quarries.

      These industries help in supplying certain work in progress goods for large industries. They include nut & bolt making, coir making, plastic bags industries, dying industry, match box making, weaving industry are some examples for small scale industries.

#   In a developing country like India, the role and importance of small-scale industries is very significant towards poverty eradication, employment generation, rural development and creating regional balance in promotion and growth of various development activities.

         The small-scale industry have been playing an important role in the growth process of Indian economy since independence in spite of stiff competition from the large sector and not very encouraging support from the government.
