Formation of the standing waves on the strings:

Standing wave are produced when two waves having same frequency interfere with one another while travelling in opposite direction.

The point at which vibration is maximum in the resulting wave is called anti node. Here, the displacement of the particle is maximum.

The point at which vibration is minimum in the resulting wave is called node. There is no displacement of the particle.
