Sustainable Development means current development should take place without harming the environment and the current development should not curb the needs of future generation rather it should preserve for them.
For example --- Water
Water , more specifically ground water has been overused over many years. In India, 300 districts are under serious threat of ground water scarcity due to overuse. It is estimated that in coming 25 years, a large percent of the human population will overuse the water resource if the current rate of usage goes on.This would lead to acute water shortage for the coming generations.A proper development plan should be introduced to preserve the groundwater for future.
Water is renewable resource but if it is overused it can also get exhausted.
Next example ---Mineral oil
It has been estimated that the present reserves of oil from all the world will last only for 53 years. India and US have low reserves of oil, so they have to import oil mainly from Middle East counties. If the stock of oil goes low, the prices of oil will increase that will affect countries like India.Even the stock of oil can get exhausted and nothing will be left for the future generations.A well and calculated development plan should be introduced to preserve the already low stocks of crude oil.
In these context, the concept of sustainable development comes.
