Burst of the Monsoon:

  • Burst of the monsoon is when normal rainfall increases suddenly and it lasts constantly for several days. During the burst of monsoon, the intensity of rainfall is very high and if it lasts for many days it may even cause damage to farmers, humans, and properties too.
  • The sudden break out of the monsoon winds with an intensifying low pressure over the north-western part of the sub-continent, associated by thunder and lightning is called "burst of monsoon".
  • The monsoon, unlike the trades, are not steady winds but are pulsating nature, affected by  different atmospheric conditions encountered by it, on its way over the warm tropical seasons.
  • The duration of the monsoon is between 100-120 days from early June to mid-September. Around the time of its arrival, the normal rainfall increases suddenly and continues "Burst" of the monsoon, and can be distinguished from the pre-monsoon showers.
  • The monsoon arrives at southern tip of the Indian Peninsula generally by the first week of June.
