Khuntkatti system of the Mundas was actually a joint ownership or holding of land by tribal lineage.

The Mundas usually cleared the forests and make the land fit for cultivation. The land belonged to the whole clan and not to a particular individual.

When the jagirdars and outsiders tried to end the Khunkatti system and introduce Zamindary system, the Mundas turned against them and fought with for long time.

The Khuntkatti system of the Mundas is actually an institution of custom which was found among the Mundas of the dwelling of Chotanagpur.

It provides the ownership of a land equally among all families belonging to the same clan or killi who helped in clearing a forest and making the said land cultivable.

No single individual could claim ownership over it.
