what do you mean by the policy of apartheid how did this policy came to an end

Apartheid was the system of division of people according to their colour ie. they were divided into blacks and whites in South Africa . This policy came to an end due to hard efforts made by Nelson Mandela. He also became the first black coloured prime minister.
