TRIPLE FUSION:

The fusion involving two polar nuclei and a sperm nucleus that occurs in double fertilization in a seed plant and results in the formation of the endosperm is known as triple fusion.

WHY DOES IT OCCURS:

✷Triple fusion is the fusion of the male gamete with two polar nuclei inside the embryo sac of the angiosperm.

✷ This process of fusion takes place inside the embryo sac.

✷When pollen grains fall on the stigma, they germinate and give rise to the pollen tube that passes through the style and enters into the ovule.

WHO DISCOVERED:

Double fertilization was discovered more than a century ago by Sergei Nawaschin and Grignard in Kiev, Russian Empire, and Léon Guignard in France. Each made the discovery independently of the other.
