TRIPLE FUSION:

The fusion involving two polar nuclei and a sperm nucleus that occurs in double fertilization in a seed plant and results in the formation of the endosperm is known as triple fusion.

WHY DOES IT OCCURS:

Triple fusion is the fusion of the male gamete with two polar nuclei inside the embryo sac of the angiosperm.

This process of fusion takes place inside the embryo sac.

When pollen grains fall on the stigma, they germinate and give rise to the pollen tube that passes through the style and enters into the ovule.

WHO DISCOVERED:

Double fertilization was discovered more than a century ago by Sergei Nawaschin and Grignard in Kiev, Russian Empire, and Léon Guignard in France. Each made the discovery independently of the other.
