Usually viable seeds undergo dormancy and under favourable conditions they germinate into new plants.

There is a simple test to find whether the seed is viable or not.

Select the seeds and soak them in water for 15 minutes if the seeds get sunk in the water then they are said to be viable and if they float they are not viable.
