The Weimar Republic was the democratic government founded in Germany following Kaiser Wilhelm II's abdication near the end of War World I. It continued in name until 1945, but actually ended with Hitler's seizure of dictatorial powers in 1933.

1. After the defeat of Germany in the First World WAr and the abdication of the king,the German polity was rebuilt.
2. A national assembly met at Weimer and established a democratic constitution as a federal system.
3. There were 2 major defects of Weimer constitution which resulted in its instability and vulnerability to dictatorship.
(i) Proportional representation. This created problem for any one party to gain majority, leading to rule by coalition.
(ii) Article48, which gave the president power to impose emergency, suspend civil rights and rule by decree.
4. It has signed the peace treaty of Versailles which was not well accepted by people thus,make idea of democracy fragile.
