Law enforcement is the process of ensuring that the law and order of a region or nation is followed by its citizens in their daily lives. It also has mechanisms for ensuring that the region or nation's institutions are respected and public interests are not harmed or affected by the misdemeanour or grievous wrongdoing by any person or group of persons.
In India, law and order is a state subject. Hence, it is the primary responsibility of the states to ensure that enforcement of law is properly carried out.If the Government in any state fails to do this, then the Central Government may take appropriate measures as defined by the Constitution of India.
The Government uses Police, Paramiltary Forces and even the Army, in extreme cases, to carry out the enforcement of law.
