Holozoic mode of nutrition is a type of heterotropic nutrition that is characterized by the internalization and internal processing of gaseous , liquid, or solid food material. Protozoa exibit this kind of nutrition.
It is the type of nutrition in which an organism directly takes solid and complex food into the body in order to obtain energy and other essential nutrients for the body and its life processes.
This type of nutrition generally takes place in 5 steps namely,
1. Ingestion- Taking the food inside of the body
2. Digestion- Breaking down the food into simpler form
3. Absorption- Absorbing the broken down food
4. Assimilation- Obtaining energy from the absorbed food
5. Egestion- Removal of undigested food
It is carried out by organisms like Amoeba, humans and other vertebrates like birds and animals.
