The changing trends or variations in the physical and chemical properties of elements at periodic/regular intervals on moving down a group or across a period in a periodic table is called periodicity.

Periodicity occurs due to similar electronic configuration i.e. the valence electrons of elements.

Elements are arranged in a proper order

groups { vertical columns} and periods

{ horizontal rows }.
