Yes, air expands upon heating, air or gas has the largest intermolecular space, which is the distance between each molecule. That is the reason gases can be free and can take any shape. When we heat air, the molecules in the air lose their energy and start to depart, which means , the inter molecular spaces increase. This is called expanding.
