While there’s no hope for me of competing with I mustt concur that a breakfast of precisely that plus tea or coffee is a great starter for a good morning.
Yes, butter is fat. Yes, jams and marmalade contain sugar. Yes, bread is a feculent - sugar again. But then if you drink regularly (maybe not soft drinks, and go easy with sugar in that ten o’clock tea/coffee, you won’t need much more until lunch.
Of course you can have a four/five o’clock tea with bread, butter and jam. And you can have both. I just prefer them at breakfast - if I don’t indulge in a solid piece of Gruyères with my bread. A cultural thing.
I also tend to favour homemade jams. Made of home-grown or locally bought fruit and sugar. Nothing else save some thickener if needs be, grapes can be difficult to thicken.
