she was sure dat one day she will die so she connecting her life with the last leaf...she felt that whn the last leaf will fall even I will die..hence she was counting her days on the last leaf

In the short story 'The Last Leaf' by O. Henry, Johnsy was suffering from depression due to her severe illness and had developed a very pessimistic attitude towards life. Due to her depressed state, Johnsy compared her life to the ivy vine outside her window. She felt that just like the ivy vine was wilting away and shedding its leaves because of the harsh weather, her strength too was getting depleted with each passing hour due to the pneumonia. She had developed the belief that her possible death would be simultaneous with the falling of the last leaf.
