Old man's point of view depends on the which person he is and which circumstances he he is living.. And in general geriatric people have common characters and this applies to every old individual.. They are little more sensitive and need of more love and care. They expect some love from people around them.

I think that the old man thinks only about positive effect of something since  he says that the Battle of Blenheim was a" famous victory " even though it was a battle which caused loss of life and property to many people and many people were seriously injured
