In 1923 British climber George Mallory was in the U.S trying to raise funds for an expedition to Mt. Everest the following year.  At the time, no one had yet reached the top of the world’s highest peak, though his team had gotten close during a previous expedition. During his trip, a New York Times reporter asked, “Why do you want to climb Mt. Everest?” Mallory replied simply, “Because it’s there.”

No one would successfully summit Mt. Everest for another 30 years, and many lives would be lost in the pursuit of this elusive goal—including Mallory’s own during the 1924 expedition.
Adventurous

A word describing someone who looks for that extra something out of life; who is never happy with the standard or normal and always wants to explore a little further. An adventurous person tends to take risks and push the limits of methods or ideas that are considered acceptable as the norm among unadventurous people.
